The implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is evident at SMA N 1 Lembang through a Community Service (PKM) activity themed “Exploring Japanese Culture through Art, Language, and Tradition” on Monday, July 21, 2025. The event, organized by the International Relations Studies Program, featured a special guest speaker from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Erika Matano, and was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This PKM was designed to introduce the richness of Japanese culture to the students of SMA N 1 Lembang, covering aspects of art, language, and tradition. The aim is not only to broaden students’ global perspectives but also to foster cross-cultural understanding as part of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event began with a welcome speech by the Principal of SMA N 1 Lembang, Asep Kurniawan, S.Pd., M.Pd, and was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hj. Dewi Kurniasih, S.IP., M.Si. Following this, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the International Relations Program and SMA N 1 Lembang, aiming to open up more opportunities for both parties, including in the development of educational programs, research, and collaborative activities in the future.

Erika Matano also presented several topics to be taught to the students of SMA N 1 Lembang, such as Japanese traditional food, kimono attire, and samurai culture. The students appeared enthusiastic throughout the event, with some trying on kimonos, practicing Japanese language, playing Japanese-style games, and participating in flag-guessing games featuring national and international figures.

With the successful implementation of this Community Service Program, UNIKOM and SMA N 1 Lembang have taken a significant step forward in fostering a new generation with a broad global perspective.
