2025 International Court Simulation: United Nations Israel’s Occupation of Palestinian Territories

The International Relations Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, UNIKOM, is hosting the 2025 International Mock Trial, an annual event aimed at honing students’ diplomatic and negotiation skills. This year’s event is centered around the critical theme: “United Nations: Israel’s Occupation of Palestinian Territories,” which addresses the issue of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.
The simulation involved 39 students acting as delegates from various countries, discussing resolutions and solutions to the prolonged conflict. During the simulation, participants were not only required to understand the political positions of the countries they represented but also to construct strong arguments, negotiate, and collaborate to reach a consensus. Additionally, 20 fourth-semester students acted as observers during the session. ICS is a regular activity of the IHI Program at Unikom, held once a year, and also serves as the Professional Practice Course in the IHI Program’s curriculum.

The event began with a speech by Prof. Dr. Hj. Aelina Surya, Dra., Chair of the International Moot Court Simulation, who emphasized the importance of international moot court simulations as a means for delegates to hone their skills in discussing global issues and formulating solutions. The hope is that students of the International Relations program can become competent diplomats ready to represent Indonesia on the international stage. Next, the Head of the International Relations Program, Dr. Dewi Triwahyuni, S.IP., M.Si., delivered a speech and officially opened the second day of the International Mock Trial. In her speech, she noted that the topic of the trial is particularly intriguing as it addresses a global issue that is still seeking solutions, making this mock trial a specialized competency that must be undertaken to become an international relations student. International meeting simulations like Model United Nations are an important platform for students to enhance their soft skills in understanding global issues. The event was also attended by permanent faculty members of the International Relations Program, including Andrias Darmayadi, M.Si., Ph.D, Sylvia Octa Putri, S.IP., M.I.Pol, Dr. Henike Primawanti S.IP., M.I.Pol, as well as program staff Dwi Endah Susanti, S.E.

The SDC event took place at 8:00 AM and was divided into three sessions, concluding with a press conference. The event concluded at 1:00 PM. Each participant actively participated in country statements and debates related to the session theme. This international session simulation event was made even more interesting with the presentation of certificates and sashes of appreciation from the International Relations Study Program to the best session participants. The award recipients were Muhammad Ivan Firdaus as The Best Speech, Anisa Nurfadhillah as The Best Position Paper, Jeremia Christian as The Best Male Delegate, Meita Qurrotu A’yuni as The Best Female Delegate, Diche Pranatali as Most Outstanding, Nadira Mulistira as Honorable Mention, and Almer Devara as the recipient of Verbal Commendation. The event concluded with a group photo of the delegates, observers, and organizing committee. May the next SSI event bring benefits not only to International Relations students but also to the national and global public.
